The world we live in ,where all of us are Trayvons and Zimmermans

Well I have a follower for my blog now. Not a bad first day at all. Well, I was watching CNN today and reading other internet news sites about the Trayvon Martin case. Well of course there are varied opinions and when there is an opinion there will always be differences.

So here is my take on it.While there were plenty of evidences presented on both sides and character assassination of both parties involved by defense and the prosecution-The only truth is that life of a young promising teenager has been lost forever. His parents and his friends will never be able to ever see him, speak to him or hear him again. And another young man will forever live under the pressure of the guilt ,prosecuted by society and his conscience. The court  has acquitted him but his conscience will never.

So what wrong did young Trayvon do? He was walking home in the evening and it was not even late in an apartment complex. I myself have lived in such enclosed apartment communities and it is normal for people to walk around at the time mainly because not everybody wants to use a car all the time and 17 year olds will not have a car. So while we understand that George Zimmerman was a neighborhood watchman .He was particularly over enthusiastic that day ,however he had no right kill.

For one moment let us assume all the things that were said about Trayvon(by the defense) were true and that he was a trouble maker and was exhibiting suspicious behavior on the day for Zimmerman to follow him and doubt him.

Maybe he was a trouble maker and was suspended from school.
Maybe he had women's jewelry in his backpack probably stolen by him!
Maybe he had a screwdriver and maybe he was looking to rob a house that day!
Maybe he smoked marijuana and maybe he got angry  that evening ,was aggressive and attacked Zimmerman(From the pictures I see on internet, I see a few bloody scratches on his head and a bloody nose  however none of which put him in life threatening situation)
Maybe he was just a troubled teenager (And we have all had our share of problems when we were young)

But somebody please enlighten as to why he deserves to die for any of the above reasons. None of the above even if proven guilty justifies killing him. None of the above proves that he was a threat and could hurt somebody. While there are all these allegations  and insinuations against him there is none which says he was violent or threatening or somebody who would beat up somebody.

If some stranger follows me - I will be scared, If a stranger questions me and harasses me and asks me suspicious questions, I will get angry and be scared. I will do whatever I can do protect myself.
A neighborhood watchman's job is to keep a watch and that is all .His job was not to follow around to kill people even if that person is the most dangerous criminal in the world. One will just report to police and help them as much as I can.

I fail to understand why Zimmermann had to feel threatened(one of the jury members I believe said that he was).Trayvon did not follow him, did not harass him, did not mug him, did not have a gun, did not have a knife. He did not have anything in his hands which was dangerous.

Zimmerman all along knew that he had a gun; he always had the upper end. He was in the most advantageous position - Always. If Trayvon had a weapon and he was dangerous he would have used it immediately. He would not need to hit or punch Zimmerman.
What happened that night was that a human being felt it very easy to take another human's life. Because he was told by the law that he could. Because he jumped to conclusions about Trayvon and presumed that this boy was dangerous. Well we are always advised to stay away from presumptions and assumptions. That is the most dangerous thing.

Even an animal kills only when it is hungry and only when it is absolutely threatened for its life. Humans have been given the extraordinary gift of being aware, of having feelings, of having the capacity to be kind, forgive and love. Yet everyday day all of these human qualities fail as if these are alien to us.

Our society has become increasingly cynical. We do not trust anyone, we cannot open up to anyone, and we are suspicious of everyone. We want to control everything and we want easy solutions for everything. We always crave for power and think we can do anything. Zimmerman thought he had the right to kill –and that is what the sad part is.

While the whole incident and the verdict has awakened a whole lot of society, the final verdict for human is  to "Stand our ground" for humanity ,for kindness and for forgiveness. Otherwise we will only have Trayvons and Zimmerman's in our society.

How Jane Austen is as relevant as ever

Well this is my first post and what is on my mind right now is Jane Austen. What a writer she was? How she understood a women's heart and how well she could decipher love and relationships and mostly how she was able to comment upon the human self without getting too preachy.

Her books are a relief to my soul ,well to any woman's soul. She removes us from this cynical modern world into a time and era where world was simple and uncomplicated. There was romance in the air and women were ladies and men were chivalrous gentlemen.Well who can forget the clothes and shoes of course!

Jane Austen's books are about humans and their love, ambitions, insecurities, their defeats and their triumphs. But mostly I feel what she wrote was a commentary on the social situation in early 18th century. Her view of human and the society. How we think we have come a long way ,however little has changed.Jane Austen's famous line from her book "Pride and Prejudice" - "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife" is as relevant as ever.

Our society is still about finding the most eligible bachelor in the town.We sill have lot of Mrs. Benettes and Mr.Collins among us.Most importantly the "eligible" bachelors and their mothers (by their own definitions of course!) of our society believe in that statement more than the mothers or a girl herself. In our society and believe me in every part of the world , a man still thinks that he is a prized possession something which every girl wants -Whether it is to propose or decide to marry-It is he who has to be ready and make a decision as there are plenty of women after him and his fortune. It is he who has to buy a ring always!.

A false pretense which even Mr.Darcy could not get away with.He however acknowledges his pride, presumptions and his reserved nature to be the cause of some problems and appreciates Lizzy for pointing it out to him. That is what makes Mr Darcy an ideal man for every woman. As he loved the very woman who pointed out all the faults in him.

It is sad but a woman even in today's world cannot propose a relationship leave alone marriage. It would be highly inappropriate.Such women are often termed as aggressive ,obsessive or plain silly.

This narrow, stereotypical, judgmental nature of a human mind is what Jane Austen tries to capture ,decipher and point out in her books. She showed the ugly side of a human in the most subtle manner. The fact that her all characters are always grey not black or white says a lot about each human's struggle to self discovery.

I just love her books and would recommend to every teenagers discovering books for the first time.

It is surprising that somebody who understood human relationships so well never married herself.Well sometimes women who are single(Just like Mua!)are really the most romantic as they are always dreaming of something unattainable ,some image(An image only) of wonderful caring man who would come and sweep them off their feet.Well dream on!

I get a feeling that Jane would have sat for hours by her bay window looking out at her wonderful English gardens and would have dreamed about love and friendship.I have a feeling she always yearned for love and missed it.

Well most of us women do the same as well!
